Semeion
Semeion is an ever-evolving light and sound installation exploring AI from an aesthetic and humanistic point of view created by me and the rest of Circuit Circus.
Semeion is an ever-evolving light and sound installation exploring Artificial Intelligence from an aesthetic and humanistic point of view. While AI is already an integrated part of our lives, it often exists as intangible systems working behind screens. In Semeion, the AI manifests itself in several large minimalist structures, that individually and collectively respond to human presence. In its abstract form, it evokes human relations through its behavior. The viewer is invited to suspend their predispositions about AI and engage with it in an explorative, curious way.
Semeion is a collaboration between SXSW and Danish partners, and was shown at three venues throughout spring 2019; SXSW 2019 (US), Click Festival 2019 (DK), and Roskilde Festival 2019 (DK). Through its encounters with festival visitors, Semeion will evolve over time, changing its light and audio expression as it learns from humans, and forms an identity as its own being.
The work is commissioned by Catch – Center for Art and Technology, Roskilde Festival, and SXSW, LLC. Semeion is supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and their joint effort “Danish Arts in USA”.
